When designing a website or blog, there are many things that must be considered, not the least of which is your color palette. Different colors invoke different moods so it’s important that your color palette reflects your intent.
While sticking with the classics is always safe, why not punch it up a bit and follow one of the new color trends of 2012?
Pantone, the leading authority on color systems, has released their picks for the top color palettes of the New Year:
The color tones are inspired by feelings of tranquility and comfort. Relaxing blues, dusty purples and soft whites are set against grays and taupe tones.
Think of a hazy, soft rainbow when you think of these colors. Faded, stonewashed colors give the feeling of viewing a rainbow through a veil of gauze as they transfer seamlessly into each other.
Resilience
The range of outdoor shades are set off by strong browns, foliage-like greens lend an organic feel to the palette. A beautiful flamingo orange lends a pop of color.
The colors of this palette are enveloping and mysterious. Sky blues are coupled with deep indigos and majestic purples lending to a feeling of protection. Contrasting shades of gray and maroon bring a touch of sophistication to the palette.
Transcending Time
Intended to represent continuity, this palette contains hues inspired by much-loved heirlooms. Deep wines, warm beige and classic wood tones work well on any website.
Back to Fuchsia
The mixture of reds, purples and pinks is an exciting one. A lovely green and a hot pink accentuate the other hues perfectly.
Reflections
These colors bring to mind the sparkling jewels of an Asian dancer. Turkish sea, garnet and beluga are paired with classic gold and silver to give the palette a timeless feel.
Gone are the days of garish neon. This outstanding palette is bright without being obnoxious. Playful shades include Popsicle orange and berry purple. Hazy Asian-inspired hues play off of the bright colors and add interest.
